Workspace Setup
Create and configure your first workspace for sending newsletters.
A workspace is the core organizational unit in Distill for a single brand or client. Each workspace has its own subscriber lists, newsletters, sending domain, and analytics — so if you manage newsletters for multiple clients or brands, you give each one its own workspace.
What is a workspace?
A workspace represents a single sending identity. Everything inside a workspace — the subscribers, newsletters, and issued emails — belongs to that brand and is isolated from other workspaces in your organization.
For example:
- A realtor might have one workspace called "Downtown Properties" for client newsletters.
- A financial advisor managing newsletters for multiple firms would create a separate workspace for each firm.
Your organization can contain multiple workspaces, and each workspace operates independently.
Create your first workspace
When you first log in after creating your account, you are prompted to create a workspace. If you skipped that step or want to add another one:
- Click the workspace name at the top of the sidebar.
- Click New workspace.
- Enter a Workspace name — this is the display name shown inside the product. It does not need to match your sending domain.
- Click Create workspace.
You are taken directly into the new workspace's dashboard.
Configure basic settings
After creating a workspace, you can update its settings at any time from Settings -> General in the sidebar.
Workspace name
Your workspace name identifies it in the dashboard. You can rename it at any time without affecting any active subscribers or newsletters.
Workspace slug
The workspace slug is a short identifier used in certain internal URLs. It is generated automatically from your workspace name but can be changed.
Workspace name and slug changes are cosmetic — they do not affect subscriber data, newsletter content, or email delivery.
Sending domain
Your sending domain is the email domain used to send newsletters (for example, newsletters.yourdomain.com). You configure the sending domain separately in the Settings -> Sending Domain after you are ready to go live.
Until a sending domain is configured, you can use Distill's shared sending domain for testing purposes.
You must verify your sending domain on the Growth and higher plans before sending to real subscribers. Attempting to send without a verified domain will be blocked at the send step. The Free and Starter plans are limited to using the distill sending domain.
Subscriber lists
Every workspace begins without any subscriber lists. You must create a subscriber list and add people to it before your newsletter(s) will reach anybody.
See Adding Subscribers to start building your list.
