Creating a Newsletter
Set up a recurring newsletter publication in your workspace.
A newsletter in Distill is a recurring publication — a container that holds all the individual issues you produce over time. You create a newsletter once, then create new issues from it whenever you want to send a new edition.
Newsletter vs issue
The distinction matters:
- Newsletter — the publication itself (e.g., "Weekly Market Digest"). It has a name, description, and settings. You create it once.
- Issue — a single edition of the newsletter (e.g., "March 2026 edition"). Each issue contains the links, AI summaries, and foreword that go out to subscribers on a particular send.
Think of a newsletter like a magazine title and each issue as an individual monthly release.
Create a newsletter
- Click the Newsletters icon (Newsletters) in the sidebar.
- Click New newsletter.
- Enter a Name — this is the internal name used in the dashboard. It can also be used as the newsletter's display title in emails (configured in settings).
- Optionally enter a Description — a short summary of what the newsletter covers. Useful if you manage multiple newsletters.
- Click Create newsletter.
- Click Edit Current Issue on your new newsletter to start editing
A single workspace can have multiple newsletters. For example, a financial advisor might run a "Monthly Client Update" newsletter and a separate "Market Commentary" newsletter from the same workspace.
Newsletter settings
Each newsletter has its own settings accessible from the Settings tab within the newsletter view:
- Newsletter name — the display name used in email subject lines and headers.
- From name — the name shown in the recipient's inbox (e.g., "Jane Smith" or "Downtown Properties Team").
- Reply-to address — where replies from subscribers are directed.
- Default subscriber list — the list that is pre-selected when you go to send an issue.
You can update these settings at any time without affecting already-sent issues.
Managing multiple newsletters
If you run multiple newsletters from the same workspace:
- Each newsletter has its own issue list and settings.
- Subscriber lists are shared across newsletters in the workspace — you can send any newsletter to any list.
- Analytics are tracked per newsletter and per issue, so you can compare engagement between publications.
Use descriptive names to keep things organized, especially if you are managing newsletters for a client or across multiple topics.
Deleting a newsletter
To delete a newsletter, go to the newsletter's Settings tab and click Delete newsletter at the bottom of the page. Deleting a newsletter permanently removes all its issues and associated data. This action cannot be undone.
Deleting a newsletter does not affect your subscriber lists. Subscriber data is stored at the workspace level and is not removed when a newsletter is deleted.
