Adding Subscribers
Add individual subscribers to your mailing list.
Subscribers are the people who receive your newsletters. You can add subscribers one at a time through the dashboard, or import a list from a CSV file. This article covers the manual add flow for adding individual subscribers.
Add a subscriber manually
- Click the Users icon (Subscribers) in the sidebar.
- Click Add subscriber.
- Fill in the subscriber form:
- Email address (required) — the subscriber's email.
- First name (optional) — used to personalize emails.
- Last name (optional).
- Click Add subscriber.
A confirmation email is sent to the address automatically.

You can add the same subscriber to multiple subscriber lists within the same workspace. Each list tracks opt-in and status independently.
Double opt-in confirmation
Distill uses double opt-in by default. When you add a subscriber, the following happens:
- The subscriber is created with status Pending.
- Distill sends a confirmation email to the address with a unique confirmation link.
- When the subscriber clicks the link, their status changes to Confirmed.
- Only Confirmed subscribers receive newsletters.
Subscribers with status "Pending" are excluded from all sends. If a test subscriber is not receiving emails, check that they have confirmed their address.
Subscriber statuses

Re-sending the confirmation email
If a subscriber did not receive or lost their confirmation email:
- Go to the Subscribers list and find the subscriber.
- Click the three-dot menu next to their name.
- Select Resend confirmation.
A fresh confirmation link is sent to their address.
Editing subscriber details
You can update a subscriber's name at any time without affecting their confirmation status:
- Find the subscriber in the Subscribers list.
- Click their name or email to open their detail view.
- Edit the fields you want to change.
- Click Save.
Changing a subscriber's email address requires the new address to go through double opt-in confirmation again.
