Cancellation
Cancel your Distill subscription and understand what happens to your data.
You can cancel your Distill subscription at any time through the Stripe customer portal — no phone call, no cancellation form, no waiting period. After cancellation, you retain access to your current plan's features until the end of your billing period.
How to cancel
- Open your organization settings by clicking your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Select Billing from the account menu.
- Click Manage subscription to open the Stripe customer portal.
- Select Cancel plan.
- Stripe will ask you to confirm. Click Cancel subscription.
Your subscription is cancelled immediately, but your access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
What happens after cancellation
During your remaining billing period:
You continue to have full access to all features of your current plan. You can still send newsletters, manage subscribers, and use AI summaries until the billing period ends.
At the end of your billing period:
Your account transitions to a read-only state. You can log in and view your historical data, but you cannot send newsletters or add new subscribers. To resume sending, you need to reactivate your subscription.
Data retention:
Distill retains your data — subscribers, newsletters, issues, and analytics — for 30 days after your billing period ends. After 30 days, your workspace data is permanently deleted.
Once data is deleted after the 30-day retention window, it cannot be recovered. If there is any chance you may return to Distill, export your subscriber lists before the end of the retention window.
Export your data before cancelling
Before cancelling, export anything you want to keep:
Export subscriber lists:
- Go to your workspace and click the Users icon (Subscribers) in the sidebar.
- Click the subscriber list you want to export.
- Click Export and download the CSV file.
Repeat for each list in each workspace.
Export newsletter content:
Newsletter content is stored in your Distill account. If you want a copy of past issues, use the issue detail page to copy the content before your data is deleted.
Reactivating your subscription
If you want to return to Distill after cancelling:
- Log in with your existing account credentials.
- Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar, then select Billing.
- Click Reactivate subscription and choose a plan.
If you reactivate within the 30-day retention window, all your existing data (subscribers, newsletters, issues) is immediately restored. If you reactivate after data deletion, you start fresh with an empty workspace.
Free plan users
If you are on the Free plan, there is no billing to cancel. Your account remains active indefinitely. To close your account permanently, contact support at support@distill.ink.
Distill does not offer refunds for unused time on paid plans. If you cancel mid-period, you keep access until the period ends but are not charged for the next period.
