Sections & AI Content
How to use Text Blocks, Link Groups, Featured Links, Dividers, and Sponsors — and how AI generates content for each section.
Sections are the modular building blocks of every issue. You compose a newsletter by stacking sections in the order you want them to appear in the final email.
Section types
Text Block
A rich text editor for free-form content. Use it for introductions, commentary, editor's notes, analysis, or any written content.
Rich text features:
- Bold, italic
- Headings (H2, H3)
- Bullet lists and numbered lists
- Blockquotes
- Inline links
- Uploaded images
Select text to reveal the formatting toolbar. Content auto-saves as you type.
AI generation: Click the sparkle icon in the section header to generate text. The AI writes content based on:
- The section title
- Other sections in the issue and their content
- Links included in the issue
- Your newsletter's AI settings (tone, length, custom instructions)
The generated text streams in real time. Once complete, you can edit it freely.
Link Group
A themed collection of curated links. Each link group can hold any number of URLs, and each link gets an AI-generated summary automatically.
Adding links:
- Click Add Link inside the group and paste a URL
- Click Bulk Add to paste multiple URLs at once (one per line)
- Links are processed automatically — title extraction and AI summary happen in the background
Optional intro text: Link groups support an intro paragraph that appears above the links in the sent email. You can write this yourself or generate it with AI.
AI generation: Click the sparkle icon to generate an intro paragraph. The AI writes an introduction that ties together the links in the group, giving readers context about why these links were curated together.
Reordering links: Drag links within the group to change their display order.
Featured Link
A single link with hero-style treatment — larger text, prominent thumbnail image, and standout styling. Use it to highlight the most important piece of content in your issue.
- Add a Featured Link section.
- Paste the URL into the input field.
- The link is processed automatically and displayed with its title, summary, and thumbnail.
Each Featured Link section holds exactly one link.
Divider
A simple horizontal line that creates visual separation between sections. Dividers have no editable content — they just add spacing and a rule in the email.
Sponsor
An ad placement linked to a workspace sponsor. Select from sponsors configured in your workspace settings. The sponsor's headline, description, and image appear in the email.
If no sponsors are configured, the section will show a prompt to set them up in workspace settings.
AI content generation
Two section types support AI-generated content: Text Block and Link Group. Both use the sparkle icon () in the section header.
How it works
- Click the sparkle icon on a Text Block or Link Group section.
- A "Generating content..." indicator appears in the sidebar.
- Text streams into the section in real time as the AI writes.
- When complete, the section shows an "AI Generated" badge.
- Edit the generated content at any time — it becomes regular editable text.
What the AI considers
The AI builds context from several sources to write relevant content:
- Section title — guides the topic and framing
- Section type — text blocks get full passages; link groups get intro paragraphs
- Links in the section — summaries and titles of included links inform the writing
- Neighboring sections — content from previous and next sections helps maintain flow and avoid repetition
- Newsletter AI settings — tone (professional, casual, friendly, etc.), length preferences, and any custom instructions you have configured
AI settings
Each newsletter has configurable AI settings that affect all generated content:
- Tone — controls the voice (professional, casual, friendly, authoritative, conversational, or storytelling)
- Length — controls how much text the AI writes
- Custom instructions — any specific guidance for the AI (e.g., "Always mention our company name" or "Write in first person")
Configure these in your newsletter settings. They apply to all AI-generated section content in that newsletter.
AI generation is available only while the issue is in Draft status. Once an issue is scheduled or sent, content cannot be regenerated.
AI Scaffold
AI Scaffold is a one-click way to structure an entire issue from scratch. Instead of manually creating sections, the AI analyzes the links you have added and generates an optimal layout.
- Click AI Scaffold in the top-right of the issue editor.
- Optionally provide a brief to guide the structure.
- The AI suggests a set of sections with titles and link assignments.
- Click Apply to replace the current sections with the scaffold.
Applying a scaffold replaces all existing sections. If you have content you want to keep, duplicate or copy it before scaffolding.
Managing sections
Collapse and expand
Click the chevron in a section header to collapse it. Collapsed sections show a content preview so you can scan the issue at a glance.
Duplicate a section
Click the three-dot menu on a section header, then Duplicate. A copy of the section is created immediately below the original.
Delete a section
Click the three-dot menu, then Delete. This removes the section and its content permanently.
